Jamie’s Italian: Homey and uniquely Italian

Jamie’s Italian: Homey and uniquely Italian

Italian cuisine with a twist at Jamie Oliver's second Singapore outlet.

Just two years after the launch of the first Jamie’s Italian at VivoCity, Jamie Oliver and Hotel Properties Limited have opened a second venue at bustling Orchard Road. Recently opened at Forum Shopping Mall, the new Jamie’s Italian has already seen tonnes of people queueing up for a taste of the brand’s unique take on traditional Italian home-style cooking.
Ambience

Colourful, vibrant and definitely cosy – Jamie’s Italian is warmly welcoming.

The new outlet seats 140 persons and the inviting smell of pizza and all things Italian wafts through the outlet at all times. Service is friendly and welcoming and staff usher you to your table and make sure you’re comfortable. The decor stays true to its roots, with London Underground-style tiles and an eclectic mix of reclaimed church chairs and upholstered armchairs.

What’s really cool about Jamie’s Italian at Forum is its open kitchen — everything is done in plain sight of the customers. From stretching out pizza dough, tossing a salad, to cooking up a piping hot plate of pasta, visitors are able to see exactly what is going on in the kitchen.

Food

Jamie’s Italian serves up modern Italian with a focus on freshness and quality ingredients. They make their pastas fresh every day from scratch and diners can watch it being churned out of the Ferrari-red machines — a theme for all the machines in the kitchen.

The restaurant only uses free-range, sustainably-sourced produce. In other words, every ingredient on guests’ plates has been produced ethically and verified for sustainability and traceability, ensuring only the freshest and highest quality produce.

Jamie’s Italian at Forum is be the first outlet in Singapore to serve hand-made artisan pizza, baked to order.

The star of the menu is the pizza and signature antipasti, so we got to work straightaway on sampling the Funghi pizza: a mix of cheesy béchamel, truffle cream, porcini mushrooms, smoked mozzarella and peppery rocket. The pizza is made by hand and proved for hours before being gently hand- stretched. This resulted in an irresistibly crisp texture.

Next we sampled the prawn linguine which was well-proportioned in terms of sauce to pasta. The ingredients used were extremely fresh, and the smell of all the different components came together beautifully.

The prawn linguine was cooked to perfection, with flavour bursting through every mouthful.

Besides these two dishes, other highlights included the grilled pork chop, wild mushroom and smoked mozzarella risotto and the cauliflower fritti — cauliflower fritters. We’re told they go great with a pint. If beer isn’t your thing, opt for Jamie’s Mojito, which uses prossecco instead of soda water.

To finish on a sweet note, we sampled the creamy panna cotta with berry compote. With just the right amount of sweetness and texture, even the most hardcore of dessert deserters were won over by its creamy texture and addictive taste. Other popular choices were the lemon meringue cheesecake and Jamie’s Epic chocolate brownie.

Even if you don’t have a sweet tooth, its a good idea to save some room for the delicious desserts.

Verdict

Jamie’s Italian has a warm, homely feel that is as inviting as the food. With its open kitchen concept and high-quality ingredients, it’s a great casual meal out with friends and family or even a romantic dinner for two. Be sure to make reservations early though as the restaurant is still immensely popular.
